A week of dresses

I rarely wear dresses even though I own quite a few.  While rummaging through my closet recently thinking about what I needed to get rid off, I came across my dresses all grouped together in the back.  I decided that if I wanted to keep them, I have to wear them at least once this year.  So, I chose to wear a dress each day to work for a week and this was the outcome.  All of these dresses are from Lane Bryant a few years ago except the peachy foral one. That came from Charlotte Russe when they first launched their plus sized range. I love all of these dresses.

Enjoy!

Just give me all the gingham

I have gone crazy for gingham! Lane Bryant has been having quite a few gingham pieces show up in their store and none of them really screamed for me to take it home.  Low and behold, they come out with some online exclusive pieces that I absolutely fall in love with!  Now, I like to try my clothes on and I hate returning things so I’m not really an online shopper.  I held out on buying these pieces for a while but would still stalk lanebryant.com daily just to make sure they were still there.  Then the 40% off and spring sale came and sizes started disappearing.  I had to act fast and get the three pieces that I had been lusting after and I have not been disappointed.  I selected a size and kept my fingers crossed that everything would fit.  And it did!  I could have gone down a size on the dress, but once I added a belt…it was perfect.

I purchased my very first bikini!  It’s a high waisted one.  (I’m not that confident….yet!)  But I was surprisingly very emotional about it.  I always look at 2 piece suits and really love the way that they look, but have always been to scared to get one.  Well, I purchased the top as part of their online exclusive and the bottoms I got off the clearance rack at the outlet for $5.98!  That made the entire outfit less than $50. The shoes are Rebecca Minkoff from last year. (Gingham Flounce Bikini Tolt-In Bandeau Bra $41.02)

The next gingham piece is the Gingham shell with belt $26.69.  I absolutely love this top.  I tried it on in the store and when I walk out of the dressing room to show one of my favorite store managers…people wanted to know where that top was in the store.   Sorry, online only.  Kind of a bummer for them.  I paired it with a white skort also from Lane Bryant but many many years old.

The final piece from Lane Bryant is the Off the shoulder shirtdress ($40.04).  I have a beach trip coming up and I just pictured myself wearing this dress while walking on the beach.  It’s so pretty, flowy and summery.  I could not pass it up. I’m so excited to see if it makes me feel as good on the beach as it did in my imagination. This dress has a thin lining which is pretty soft and comfortable.  I also love the tie detail on the sleeves. The gold belt is from Lane Bryant and does not come with the dress. The sandals are from Guess last year.

The final piece is a gorgeous off the shoulder shirt that I bought from Saks off 5th.  It’s by a brand called BeachLunchLounge which I absolutely love!  This is my first piece from them, but I know that I am going to buy more because I have been eyeing some of it for a few months now. It was $34.99 and I just paired it with my denim boyfriend fit distressed capri’s from Torrid.

As you can see, the trend that I have fallen in love with this year is gingham and I continue my love for the off the shoulder trend that picked up steam last year. I believe I blogged about that for several pieces I purchased back then.

I hope you enjoy the looks!  Talk to you all soon.

Trends: Off the shoulder top

I’m really enjoying the trend of of the shoulder tops.  I know it is not necessarily new, but I have always shied away from it in the past because I have larger breasts.  In the last few years though, I have begun to broaden my horizons and not be afraid to try out the new trends.  I have discovered the strapless bra from Lane Bryant which has allowed me to wear many tops that I would have considered to not be an option for me.  So, here I am sharing a picture of two ways that I have worn the Chambray off the shoulder top from Lane Bryant.  Enjoy!

Outfit #1 – Chambray off the shoulder top (Lane Bryant) paired with Dark Sea Blue drapey skirt (Old Navy)

Outfit #2 – Chambray off the shoulder top (Lane Bryant) paired with Flowy Lace Shorts (Torrid)

3 days in outfits

This was fun to do last week, so I am doing it again.  Here are three outfits from last week.  All of the clothes are from Lane Bryant.  The yellow shoes are an old classic that I purchased from Boston Store in Wisconsin about three years ago.  The strappy sandals with the flowers on top are also a classic from a few years ago. I believe they are Aerosoles, but unfortunately I believe they are past their prime.  The sandals with the gold details were featured on my blog last year.  They are from Lane Bryant.  Hope you all enjoy!

A few outfits from last week

Here are a few outfits from last week. Everything is from Lane Bryant except the striped dress.  That was purchased from Saks off Fifth.  The black flat sandals are Nine West.  The wedge sandals are Reaction by Kenneth Cole.  The summer weather had me feeling very flirty, so dresses/skirts were worn three of the five work days.

Casual Friday

Lane Bryant recently had a massive clearance sale where there were quite a few items that were $6.99.  I didn’t find a ton of things, but I did get this sweater.  The color of this sweater is beautiful and I thought it would be a great color to wear on Halloween.  The cuffed jeans are a few years old from Lane Bryant and I purchased to booties from a local boutique.

New clothing buys

Over the past few weeks, I have made a few purchases at some really good sales, and some not so great sales, but I felt that I had to have the item. You know…immediate gratification and all. In the pictures, the black and white dress and the brown multi-colored dress are both from Lane Bryant. Lane Bryant has been having a great clearance sale while they prepare their inventory for fall. The black and white dress is actually from the Lane Collection which is now called 6th & Lane. I purchased both of these dresses for under $25 each.

The black skirt with LONG slits on both sides and the Love Never Fades tee are from Old Navy. I love Old Navy and had not been in there all summer. The skirt was $29.99, and I believe the tee was $16.99. The skirt was a little pricey, but I thought it would be a great addition to my wardrobe and I have worn it quite a bit since I purchased it. I’m really going to miss the summer. I am always most comfortable in my clothes during the summer, so here comes my challenging time which is fall.

Calvin Klein Skirt (OOTD)

I bought a new skirt from Belk for 60% off this weekend.  I originally planned on wearing this skirt as a dress because it’s so long, so I figured that people may not know the difference.  I changed my mind this morning after I found a pretty yellow flower necklace at Charming Charlies.  So, I decided to wear a yellow tank and a white, knit shrug jacket instead.   I got the shrug from Belk at 75% off.  I was out getting bargains last Friday.  Anyway, here is today’s work attire.

Saturday Afternoon Tea

This past month, I have decided to get out and experience more things. I just felt like I have been getting in such a rut, and becoming so boring. Most weekends, I would just sit in the house or go shopping. Now, of course, there is nothing wrong with shopping! Let’s not go crazy, but I just wanted to get out of my comfort zone a little bit. Sometimes when people would ask me to go places, I would just say no because I can be a little anti-social. I do have a little bit of social anxiety, nothing to huge but sometimes being around new people make me uncomfortable. So, yesterday, I went out with friends to a tea room. It was interesting.

My friends and I went to Tea Leaves & Thyme in Woodstock, GA. It’s a tiny little place, but we went there for the experience, and they even have a dressing room where you can choose a gown and hat to take pictures of your “British” experience. I passed on the gown and hat since I dressed for the occasion anyway. This was another dress day for me. I can’t believe how many dresses I have purchased in the last few months, I purchased this cream and white belted Jacquard skater dress from boohoo.com. I was not sure of the sizes so I went up a size in this one and got a size 22 (good choice, in my opinion). At first, I thought the dress was too short, but my friend thought it was fine. The was to my knees all the way around. There is nothing, I hate more than seeing someone with the front of a dress hanging low, and the back hiked up to reveal the butt cheeks! That was my fear, but I was given the thumbs up that all private body parts were far from being exposed. I made special effort to gloss and shine the legs up since I was wearing a shorter dress. Oh I also used a sample of a Glamglow Thirsty Mud hydrating mask, but I will have to save post of my new found love of that product for later. Unfortunately I chose to wear practical flat beige and tangerine sandals instead of pulling out a pair of the MANY wedge sandals that I have in my closet. I knew that somehow, we would end up doing a lot of walking and we did. We left for lunch at 12:30pm and ended up making a day out of. I returned home at 9pm. However, back to lunch.

We ordered the afternoon tea which came with tea (of course), a savory dish, in which I chose a chicken salad croissant, and a tower of desserts, fruits, and mini hand sandwiches. I finally got to see what a cucumber sandwich was about. Hmmm, it wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. We had pimento cheese sandwiches, which I thought was alright and another mini sandwich that I have no idea what it was. Now, these sandwiches were miniature, except of course the chicken salad croissant. They were just giving you a taste of them. Then they had fresh watermelon and cantaloupe and scones. The scones were served with cream and jam. They were pretty good. For desserts, we had chocolate covered strawberries, mini muffins (well everything was mini), and a few other little bits. It was a nice little sampling of things, but I felt like I was starving a few hours later.

Now, for the tea. It was delicious. I had what I felt was probably a dessert tea, but it was so good. It was one of their teas of the day, I believe. It was a chocolate hazelnut tea. It was so yummy. I drank my entire pot and shared none. I had a really nice experience at Tea Leaves and Thyme. They have a a cute little gift shop as well where they sell their teas, tea cups, tea pots, etc. I ended up buying a little heart tea cup and saucer because I have some heart shaped Alessi spoons that goes perfect with it. I had to have one. If anyone is ever in Woodstock, GA… try them out. Anyway, a fun Saturday was had by me and my friends.
