Christmas Season is beginning

I am so excited for the holidays this year. I did very minimal decorations the last few years, but have decided to do it up right this year. It’s been a few years since I have taken out my tree, but this is going to be the year I start that up again. I have always loved Christmas. It is one of my favorite, if not my favorite holiday. The last few years have been a little bit of a downer but I’m feeling happy this year. Almost back to my normal self I think I am still working through my decorations but decided to start with my bonus room. I purchased the pillows from Target and I have a table top tree (not pictured) in front of one of the windows. I use this room as a sitting area/workout space/office space, so the little changes has given it a nice cozy holiday feeling. I have a pink theme in this room and decided to stick with that instead of changing it up entirely.

I hope that you all are ready for a great holiday season.

This Christmas

This Christmas is a first for me. I decided, along with my best friend, that we would not be putting up decorations or exchanging gifts. The only thing we are doing is hosting dinner at the house. I admit that it feels odd. There are many reasons that this decision was made on my part. To be honest, we didn’t celebrate any holidays in my house this year. I did cook for Thanksgiving, but I spent that holiday alone. I spent the day eating and hanging out in my pajamas.  It was good, but Christmas is different.

I love Christmas! It is my favorite time of the year. I think that the majority of people are really happy around this time. At least that has been my experience. There is always a little extra joy in the air. The Christmas carols, movies and just overall cheer puts almost everyone in a good mood.

I also admit that this time of the year can be very overwhelming for people who just feel that there is to much to do. The shopping, food preparing, decorating, and schedule juggling can be daunting. I get it. I’m fortunate..or unfortunate to some…to not have much immediate family (husband, children, parents). Because of this, I don’t have much juggling but I do have all of the other things to contend with.  My overall thoughts are Christmas is what you make it.

Christmas is, after all, the celebration of the birth of Christ. All of the other stuff is just extra. No one needs to go out and buy a ton of gifts or have an extravagant dinner. So whenever people say..the holiday has become so commercial, I think ‘It doesn’t have to be.’ Everyone needs to create their own thing and give their own spin to celebrating.  They should make it what they want or feel that is should be.

This year, I’ve decided to just do dinner. No need to buy me any gifts. I’m giving love on Christmas day…as the song says. That being said, I kind of missed the hustle and bustle. I probably will be putting a little gift giving back into the plans next year and I definitely will be decorating.  I miss my tree. I can’t wait for it to appear next year. You can check out my tree in previous years blog posts though if you want.  I normally put up two trees a year..my office tree and my tree at home.  It used to be three when my mom was alive.  This year, I only put up the office tree but I miss my home tree filled with my ornaments that have been accumulated over the years. So, yes it has been an unconventional Christmas for me but I think I needed the little reset.

Til next time……

My Halloween Movie List

Since it is almost Halloween, I decided to make a list of the movies that I could watch that evening.  Now, I am not really into horror, so movies like Halloween, It, and Exorcist would never make my list because I could never stomach watching them again.  My scary movies are very cheesy but still has a “scary-ish” vibe.  So, below are my top 1o “scary” movies in no order.

  1. Gremlins
  2. Practical Magic
  3. Goonies
  4. Critters
  5. Nightmare on Elm Street (1st one only) – The only horror film I can stand.
  6. Fear
  7. Cujo
  8. The Wraith
  9. Jaws
  10. What Lies Beneath (I was traumatized at Harrison Ford being a baddie)

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to everyone who has taken time out of their schedules to read this blog.  I appreciate it very much that you have spent a moment of your time reading my scattered thoughts.  I look forward to sharing more with you next year. The photo above are just a few of the favorites on my tree.  The pine cone is over 30 years old.  I know that people now purchase these in stores, but the ones on my tree actually belonged to my grandmother. My mom and her siblings actually went outside and scrounged these up and painted them as part of their decorations.  Yes…this was back when kids still strung popcorn and handmade ornaments.  I also still have a handmade one (not pictured).  Sometimes, the simplest thing can make the holiday that much more special.

Holiday Cheer. Day 2

Every year around this time in Town Center mall, we shoppers are treated to kids doing their piano recitals.  Yesterday, I actually sat down while eating a soft pretzel and listened to about four kids do their mini concert.  This year was the first time I saw a sign for it.  They called it to pianothon.  It was nice to see and hear.  It was the perfect opportunity to relax during the hectic shopping season. #holidaycheer

My Top 4 Christmas movies

As I have been enjoying watching all of the holiday movies recently, I decided to actually write down my favorite movies to watch during this time.  I determine my favorites by having the ability to watch them over and over.  I think I will have to make a separate list for my favorites on the Hallmark Channel because if you have read my page for a while, then you will know that is what is consuming all of my time for the past two months.  🙂

1.  Elf – I absolutely love this movie.  As far as Christmas movies, this is the most recently made holiday movie that was actually so good and unique.

2.  Miracle on 34th Street (the 1994 version) – Mara Wilson is such a cute little girl in this movie, and Richard Attenborough plays the best Santa!  Then of course, there is the bonus of staring at the beautiful Dylan McDermott for the entire movie.

3.  National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation – The squirrel in the tree gets me every single time.  I often have to pause the movie to finish laughing before I can continue.

4.  The Holiday – Of course there would have to be a romantic one in there.  I don’t think this one is that popular, but I have to pop this DVD in every Christmas.  I love it.

These are the movies on repeat at my house during the holidays in between the Hallmark movies.  What is your favorite Christmas movie?

Happy Independence Day!

Today was a very nice day. Me, my best friend, her aunt and mom were all invited over to a friend’s house for a barbecue to celebrate the holiday. We enjoyed turkey burgers, sausages, macaroni salad, baked beans, pecan and apple salad, and watermelon (which I don’t eat) for dessert.

Now, none of my friends in Georgia like their pictures taken and shared online, so unfortunately the only photo that I have to share is of myself. I tried to dress festively in my blue sleeveless shirt by Maitai and a pair of white shorts by Lane Bryant. I wore silver sandals that my friend brought back from India. It was the perfect outfit for a summer barbecue. Of course, being the klutz that I am, I spilled baked beans on my shorts. I usually carry Shout wipes with me for things like this but I used my very last one yesterday. See…common occurrence with me and wasting food on my clothes.

My make up was very simple. I used a primer which helps keep the shine down, Mally Volumizing mascara, Anastasia brow wiz in granite to fill in my brows, YSL Volupte Sheer Cherry on my lips, and Hourglass Ambient Lighting blush lumeire in diffused heat on my cheeks.

This was a great start to a nice three day weekend. Happy 4th of July.

Talk you you all soon.

Merry Christmas!

As I sit here thinking about what a nice holiday today was, I have had the great privilege of watching some of my favorite Christmas movies. This morning I watched Elf, which is the most current movie that has quickly become one of my favorites. Right now, I am watching the 1994 version of Miracle on 34th Street. I BELIEVE! 🙂 As I have mentioned in previous posts, I love the holiday season. It gives me a lot of time to reflect on the things that I have accomplished this year, and unfortunately many things that I have not. Well, those things will continue to be on my list for next year. I hope that you all have had a wonderful holiday and day of reflection, and time spent with your families.

It’s that time again

If you have read my previous blogs, you know that yesterday was an exciting day for me. Yesterday was the first day of Hallmark’s Countdown to Christmas! Yes, I began watching immediately when I got home from work and appointments. The holiday season is upon us and that makes me giddy. There’s no better time of the year than this. Everyone is gearing up for the holidays which mean they are usually really happy!

Another happy moment for me is that I am almost done with school and close to getting that darn Bachelor’s degree that have alluded me all these years.

Happy ThanksgivingMas people! (I just made that up.)
