A couple of favorites

A few months ago before the craziness that we are now in, I went on a small shopping spree at the Shoppes of Atlanta.  The past year, I have been trying not to purchase new make up simply because I would like to use up all of the items that I have.  That didn’t stop me from stopping into The Cosmetics Store.  It also didn’t stop me from buying two new favorites that I added to my already full makeup drawers.  I know!  I am my own enabler.  🙂

I have been wearing this lipstick and blush pairing regularly since I got them.  The lipstick is by Mac and named Stay Curious.  It is one of their Powder Kiss lipsticks.  I absolutely love it.  It came out early last year I believe, but since I was in a no buy mindset, I had no idea it existed.  It has a matte look which is my favorite, but not drying.  It’s a very flattering color and I imagine it would be flattering on any skin tone.  I usually wear it with my chestnut lip liner but it’s really not necessary.  I can just throw it on and it looks great.

The blush I purchased is by Becca.  The color is Tigerlily.  It’s gorgeous and luminous.  I love blushed but just don’t go through them very quickly.  Knowing that, I’m glad that I seem to be using this one a lot and can actually see an indentation from use.   It almost makes me feel less guilty from purchasing it.

That’s just my rambled for today.  Everyone…take care and stay safe and healthy.

Til next time…….

What I got for my birthday

I love my birthday.  It’s just a day that I treat as just for myself.  Most of the time, I spend it alone.  I spend it going to get a free meal and going to pick up my free gifts from Sephora and Ulta.  I also go shopping to use my birthday  discounts from stores like Torrid and Lane Bryant.  It’s always a great day.  So I decided to share my spoils.

Now, I have to say that I’m not HUGE on getting gifts from family and friends anymore.  I am always very appreciative if I do get gifts, but it’s nothing that I expect anymore.  But being the shopaholic that I am, I do enjoy the occasional gift card that I get to help me get something that I have been eyeing for a while.  So…below is the list of what I got.

Glamour x Lane Bryant Bomber jacket – I have wanted this jacket the moment I saw it.  It is now on clearance and luckily my size was still available.  I purchased this with a birthday gift card. I absolutely love the embroidered image on the back.  I have to admit that it is a very short jacket.  I usually like them a little longer to cover my butt.

Denim jacket by Lane Bryant.  This isn’t anything that I was clamoring over, but Lane Bryant was have a buy one, get one free sale on their clearance items, so why not get a new denim jacket for fall!  I got this as the 2nd item when I purchased the pink jacket.

My free gift from Ulta this year was a NYX eyeshadow pallet.  Very pretty colors in it.

My free gift from Sephora is Caudalie skin care set.  It has VinoSouce Moisturizing sorbet and Vinoperfect Radiance serum.

While I was in Sephora, I saw the Sephora Favorites Skin Super Foods.  I’m so excited about this one.  Look at the fantastic stuff that is in this box set.  I cannot wait to try the Tata Harper, Farmacy, and Boscia products.

I have been looking for some nice pins/brooches to go on my shirts.  My best friend got me some Chanel inspired pins from a local boutique called Little Red Bird Gifts.  I can’t wait to wear them.  She also got me some lotion that is made locally as well.  The brand is called 1818 Farms and it was started in Mooresville, AL.

Finally, I received a cute striped tee with Viva La Brunch on it. It is super cute and I love the cuffed sleeves.

I had a great day and was fortunate enough to receive some great gifts. How do you usually celebrate your birthday?

Talk to you all soon!

My outfits of the week

Here are a few of my outfits from last week.

Top left:  Top is from Aerie, crop pants are from Lane Bryant (from the buy one, get one free CROPS sale)

Top right:  This entire outfit is from Lane Bryant.  The crop pants were the second pair from the buy one, get one free CROPS sale.  The top is a couple years old, but I love the color.  I purchased the shoes from a local boutique.

Bottom left:  Again, the entire outfit is from Lane Bryant.  The jeans, I got last fall.  The top is a couple years old, but it is one of my favorites to pull out during the summer.  I have probably featured it in a previous post.

Bottom right:  I was trying this on in the store (Lane Bryant), but I absolutely love it.  The top also comes in blue and white.  I purchased both since it was buy one, get one free.  The Bermuda shorts were half off.

Talk to you all soon!

Tatcha Skin Care

Finally, I’ve gotten my hands on some Tatcha products.  I’ve been wanting to try this for a while.  I had previously gotten a sample of the moisturizer from Sephora and enjoyed using it for the two or three days that I could get out of it.

Sephora has gotten in Tatcha’s Best Seller Sets of four products for a very good price.  The box set alone was the cost of what one item could cost you, so I was extremely excited.  I believe the set was about $60. I would say the size of the products were about 1/2 the size of the full product.  Not a sample size, so it’s a really good buy.  Now, I wasn’t sure how Tatcha products would work on dark skin, but that never deters me from trying anything out, so here are my opinions.

The box set contains their Pure Camellia Cleansing Oil, Polished Rice Enzyme Powder, Supple Moisture Rich Cream, and Luminous Dewy Skin Mist.  I was most excited to have the Dewy Skin mist because I had tried that out in the store several times, but I found another couple of gems in this set.

My favorite product is actually the Polished Rice Enzyme Powder.  I would have never thought I would enjoy washing my face with this product as much as I do.  I just thought that it would be a little scratchy and drying, but it’s exactly the opposite.  My face feels very soft and supple after I use it.  After the wash, of course, I use the Supple Moisture Rich Cream which is my second favorite product.  After using these, my skin just feels really soft and smooth.  It gives me a little bit of a glow without looking like a greasy mess. I can say that my powder foundation applies really well after I use these products.

The Cleansing oil is pretty good.  It gets the majority of the makeup off and it does work very well at getting mascara/eye makeup off.  Since it is used before the enzyme powder, it does exactly what it was supposed to do.

Now, finally, the Dewy Skin Mist.  This is the product that I have heard the most about and like I said…I’ve tried it so I already knew I would like it.  The spray is perfectly fine.  It doesn’t come out to heavy and it just gives a perfect refreshing mist when your skin needs it.  I didn’t really use it over any makeup.  I tended to just use it when my skin felt a little dry during the day.

All in all, great products.  I hate to say that I think they are worth the money, but IMO, they are.  I would buy the full sized versions.

Just give me all the gingham

I have gone crazy for gingham! Lane Bryant has been having quite a few gingham pieces show up in their store and none of them really screamed for me to take it home.  Low and behold, they come out with some online exclusive pieces that I absolutely fall in love with!  Now, I like to try my clothes on and I hate returning things so I’m not really an online shopper.  I held out on buying these pieces for a while but would still stalk lanebryant.com daily just to make sure they were still there.  Then the 40% off and spring sale came and sizes started disappearing.  I had to act fast and get the three pieces that I had been lusting after and I have not been disappointed.  I selected a size and kept my fingers crossed that everything would fit.  And it did!  I could have gone down a size on the dress, but once I added a belt…it was perfect.

I purchased my very first bikini!  It’s a high waisted one.  (I’m not that confident….yet!)  But I was surprisingly very emotional about it.  I always look at 2 piece suits and really love the way that they look, but have always been to scared to get one.  Well, I purchased the top as part of their online exclusive and the bottoms I got off the clearance rack at the outlet for $5.98!  That made the entire outfit less than $50. The shoes are Rebecca Minkoff from last year. (Gingham Flounce Bikini Tolt-In Bandeau Bra $41.02)

The next gingham piece is the Gingham shell with belt $26.69.  I absolutely love this top.  I tried it on in the store and when I walk out of the dressing room to show one of my favorite store managers…people wanted to know where that top was in the store.   Sorry, online only.  Kind of a bummer for them.  I paired it with a white skort also from Lane Bryant but many many years old.

The final piece from Lane Bryant is the Off the shoulder shirtdress ($40.04).  I have a beach trip coming up and I just pictured myself wearing this dress while walking on the beach.  It’s so pretty, flowy and summery.  I could not pass it up. I’m so excited to see if it makes me feel as good on the beach as it did in my imagination. This dress has a thin lining which is pretty soft and comfortable.  I also love the tie detail on the sleeves. The gold belt is from Lane Bryant and does not come with the dress. The sandals are from Guess last year.

The final piece is a gorgeous off the shoulder shirt that I bought from Saks off 5th.  It’s by a brand called BeachLunchLounge which I absolutely love!  This is my first piece from them, but I know that I am going to buy more because I have been eyeing some of it for a few months now. It was $34.99 and I just paired it with my denim boyfriend fit distressed capri’s from Torrid.

As you can see, the trend that I have fallen in love with this year is gingham and I continue my love for the off the shoulder trend that picked up steam last year. I believe I blogged about that for several pieces I purchased back then.

I hope you enjoy the looks!  Talk to you all soon.

Whish Beauty

Here is another product that I have been trying out for a while.  Of course, I purchased my products when they were on clearance at Ulta, however the line is still there with many choices and scents in the regular section as well. Whish says that it’s products are all natural and made with organic ingredients, which sounds great to me!  I’m always searching out organic or natural products that work well.  The products are pretty pricey which is why I jumped at the opportunity to try these clearance products.

The first products I tried were the body cream and body oil.  I really like the body oil.  The body cream was ok on it’s own, but nothing that I was overly excited about. I do love to mix the body oil and the body cream together so that it is extra smooth and moisturizing on the skin.

The second item that I tried was the Shaving cream!  O. M. G.   –  LOVE!  I don’t know what it is about this product, but I absolutely love it and it leaves my skin really smooth.  Of course, since I loved this so much, I went ahead to bought the Hair inhibiting gel and tried out the Flawless swipes as well.  The gel is a strange product, but I admit that it feels great on my skin.  It’s a little sticky feeling though.

I have just recently purchase two of their skin care products.  I purchased the Recovering Night Cream and the Restoring Face Oil.   I love these as well.  They make my face feel really soft, but the odor is something that I have to get used to.  It’s not bad, but it’s just….strange.

Anyways, for the most part, I have enjoyed using these.  Hopefully I will get to try out more..if they make their way to my favorite clearance rack.

Favorite Skin Care Items

As I get older, I have been getting more and more interested in my skin care.  I hate to admit that I don’t moisturize as much as I should, but there are a few items that have been helping me to keep my face looking nice and refreshed.

Pixi & Caroline Hirons Double Cleanse – This cleanser is great!  I love it because it easily removes all of my eye make up, but most of all, I love it because it really does moisturize my skin.  I never have to fear my dry patches showing up on my face after I use this.

Simple Moisturizing Facial Wash – This is my favorite cleanser.  I have been using it for years.  I definitely have to moisturize after I use it, but I have never had a break out using this cleanser.

Glamglow Thirsty Mud Cleanser – If you have followed my blog for some time, you will know that I absolutely love the the Thirsty Mud mask.  I have always felt it was worth the big bucks.  When they came out with the cleanser, I knew I had to give it a shot.  I really like it.  I love that it has the same smell and texture as the mask and it never leaves my skin feeling overly dry.

Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser – I tend to use this one when I’m having a breakout of something.  I am fortunate that I don’t have a lot of breakouts, but when I do, this is what I use because it seems to be the most gentle of my cleansers.

I have tried many different face cleansers and these seem to best for my very dry skin.  I occasionally try some items that I find at TJ Maxx or Marshall’s, but usually they are very fragrant and often irritate my skin.

Favorite Bath Products

I’m a huge lover of all smell good things. I have a bathroom full of bar soaps, body sprays, shower gels, body scrubs…etc. My favorite place to buy new items to try is TJ Maxx or Marshall’s simply because they have a ton of products that I have never heard of..and a ton of products that I have. They are also always on a very big discount.

Bath and Body Works is, of course, a favorite among everyone! I can sometimes lose complete control in this store and leave with so many shower gels and candles that it would take forever to use them all up.  I keep the sprays and lotions to travel sizes because I can’t go through them as quickly, but I still have a ton.

Here is a picture of a few of my favorite bath items this month.

Soap & Glory’s Clean on Me shower gel. I love the smell of this. It is so fresh and it gets me all squeaky clean.

Bliss Soapy Suds Body Wash and Body Lotion in the scent Grapefruit & Aloe. This is my favorite scent by them. It may have been discontinued as I keep getting this version from Marshall’s or Saks off 5th.

Sweet Pea Shower gel and body lotion from Bath & Body Works. I love this scent. It has been around for a very long time, but I love when it makes the way into my bath product rotation again.

HydraAromotherapy Shower Bursts – Now this isn’t actually a product that you soak in, but you drop it into your shower and let the aroma just guide your senses. I often get headaches and I love to use the Headache buster one and I also love the Relax and Healing ones. I buy them from a local spa in downtown Acworth GA called Pearl’s Spa & Boutique.

Shea Butter Exfoliating Salt Scrub by The Sommerset Toiletry Company.  This stuff smells AMAZING!  Another find from Marshall’s.   I’m obsessed with it.  Not only is it really great at making my skin feel super soft, the smell is just addicting.  It’s very strong, and the scent lingers in your bathroom and on your skin for an entire day.

Rebecca Minkoff Gilles Espadrille Flats

This weekend, I finally got out to the shops again.  Now, I am on a bit of a spending halt due to the Wisconsin house situation, but I have been having cabin fever!  I have gone shopping with my friend, but that is more for her and not necessarily for me.  So this past weekend,  I got a chance to go to a few of my favorite places which include Saks Off 5th.

Well, I found a nice little deal on this cute pair of denim and black leather espadrilles by Rebecca Minkoff.  Honestly, I had never seen them before but they must have been a popular summer shoe.  Espadrilles can often be really hard and uncomfortable, but not the case with these beauties.  They are soft and bend with foot movements.  I absolutely adore them.  I got them on a nice discount of about 65% off which made them even that much better.
